It would be great idea to take another trip to the lagoon or wetlands(or both) with your family. There are some spare copies of some of the activities we did in the classroom if you would like to take a copy of these down with you. This would be a great way to reinforce our learning and give the children some extra time to think about some of the concepts. We learned about some of the plants and birds that live in these places and the purpose of the wetlands. The wetlands clean the water and act like a sponge. They are also a safe place for wildlife to raise their young and find food.

What type of bird was it in your photo?
We are soon going to be learning about birds in our classroom.
Was it hard to find the bird when you were using the binoculars?

This is really cool. You guys are lucky to be able to do real science in beautiful places like this.
At Singapore, at the science centre they show a movie on the mega screen on the New Orleans wetlands. These have been stressed for 30 years and huge amounts have been destroyed. This is why Hurricane Katrina was so bad. The wetlands help slow the force of the wind (something like a few miles per hour slower per kilometre of wetlands). Loss of wetlands = vulnerable city.
I enjoyed our trip. Thank you.
Brooke.
